Difficult point: Students can improve their scanning ability and can understand the importance of protecting wildlife. 03Teaching Procedures01Step 1 Warming up and lead inAfter greeting students, teacher would show a video from Animal World for students. Then teacher would have a free talk with students. For instance, teacher will ask students “So what animals have you seen in this video?” “Do you know where they live?” and introduce the situation that these animals are in danger. Today lead in the topic today.02Step 2 Pre-readingTeacher introduces WWF and some endangered species. Lead students to discuss what may lead to the extinction of those animals. What problems those animals are facing? Students can give answers like: Due to the consequences of human activities such as deforestation. Teacher supplement that there is increasing awareness of wildlife protection and many things are being done to protect them. Then students make a prediction of the passage content. 03Step 3 While-readingTeacher tells the nature and context of the story. Students will read twice. For the first time, they will skim the passage and tell what animals the author has seen and main idea of the passage.Then students read the passage for the 2nd time and fill in the detailed information of each paragraphs like “Why antelopes are in danger?” “Why are elephant numbers increasing in Zimbabwe”, etc.After that, teacher leads students to guess the meaning of the words in bold and give them more examples. 04Step 4 Post-readingStudents think about more problems we should deal with to protect animals. Then work in groups of 4 and exchange each other’s problem. Imagine they work for WWF and give suggestions.05Step 5 Summary and homeworkSummary: Students make summary and teacher make a supplement and add morals。 Homework: Students write a letter to WWF and give their own suggestions.04Blackboard Design
